LETTERS OF APPRECIATION HANDED IN TO LSMU STUDENTS FOR PARTICIPATION IN VOLUNTARY ACTIVITIES

LSMU Alumni
In 2018/2019 study year the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) students were actively involved in the voluntary activities coordinated by the LSMU International Relations and Study Centre. The students performed the functions of Ambassadors, Mentors and Academic Tutors.
International students who have become the LSMU ambassadors contribute to the promotion of the University in foreign countries. During the present study year, 24 ambassadors from sixteen countries shared their opinions about the studies and life in Lithuania with those interested in the LSMU. The ambassadors answered e-mails, met the people on the Open Days and at higher education fairs. In addition, the ambassadors visited schools in foreign countries to meet pupils and inform them about the study opportunities at the LSMU. Young people and their parents were happy to hear the information not only from the University representatives, but also from the present students.
Every year International Relations and Study Centre gathers a huge team of assistants (mentors), which involves LSMU full-time students. This study year 65 mentors assisted first year full-time students, while 56 mentors assisted Erasmus + students. Notably, the mentors were selected and passed special trainings. They found time and possibilities to share their goodwill and help with others. Every full-time freshman or Erasmus + student who has just arrived for partial studies or internship has a friend mentor, who helps the new student find their way to lectures, a dormitory, shows around the city, acquantains with the transport system, advises on daily questions or studies. In cooperation with other student organisations, mentors organise first year international students’ camp and trips to Druskininkai and Palanga.
9 academic tutors were constantly ready to help international students who encountered academic difficulties in 2018/2019 study year. Senior students conducted classes for the younger before the major examinations. During those classes, they gave advice on how to study one or another subject, what literature to use as well as they answered the students’ questions.
Active students were invited by International Relations and Study Centre to the excursion to The Open-Air Museum of Lithuania, which is one of the biggest ethnographic open-air museums in Europe with the abundance of unique exhibits. The students found out about life, work and traditions of the peasants and townspeople of all Lithuanian ethnographic regions (Dzūkija (Dainava), Aukštaitija (Highlands), Suvalkija (Sudovia), Žemaitija (Samogitia) and Lithuania Minor, as they looked at the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 20th century.
During the trip the students also discovered ancient games and played them. The LSMU representatives gave the students Letters of Appreciation for their help, effort, warm cooperation and invited them to continue the activities next study year.
